Gov’ Aiyedatiwa Launches Task Force To Battle Land Grabbing

In a bold move to curb rising land-related crimes, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated a State Task Force on Property Protection and Anti-Land Grabbing.

The initiative aims at eliminating fraudulent land sales, illegal occupation, and extortion .

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while unveiling the task force highlighted the severity of land grabbing in both rural and urban areas.

He announced strict penalties under a new law, including up to 21 years’ imprisonment for illegal resale of land and 10 years for forceful acquisition.

The law prescribes fines and prison terms for other offenses such as illegal levies and violation of real estate regulations.

The governor charged the task force to enforce the law decisively and to work with communities and relevant agencies to restore order in land administration across the state.

The task force comprises the Attorney General Dr. Kayode Ajulo, Police Commissioner CP Wilfred Afolabi, Amotekun Commander , Chief Adetunji Adeleye, and representatives from ministries, civil society, and community leader while Mr Festus Aiyegbusi Olabode is the Coordinator and Secretary of the task force.
