YPP CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA, CALLS FOR ELECTORAL REFORMS AMIDST ALLEGATION OF VOTE BUYING
The November 16, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State remains an indelible political event for us at the Young Progressives Party, YPP.
Desspite all odds and growing pessimism against the Nigerian nation project, we summoned uncommon courage to provide an alternative platform through which hope could be rekindled.
Therefore, the outcome of the election did not make us failures but has further strengthened our resolve to help our generation get governance right.
We would be remiss not to acknowledge the salient issues of persisting negative trends in our electoral process, particularly vote trading and financial inducement.
These practices undermine the integrity of our democracy and perpetuate a culture of corruption. As it seems victory will always be awarded to the deepest pocket.
We however must congratulate Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa; having been declared the winner .
We hope that the Governor will dissapoint his critics who believe that the last ten months of his administration has not added much momentum to the drive of development in the Sunshine State.
We hope that the disturbing rate of out of school children will be arrested. We hope that the ravaging hunger in Ondo State will be alleviated. We hope that lives and security of residents will matter more now in this your administration and the one to come.
We urge the Governor to take ownership of this moment, knowing that power is transient, to use his space in history to address the issues of our collective concerns and commence structural, institutional and social reengineering of the state; to arrest poverty – a huge factor in the vote buying practice of the people.
We, as a Party shall remain committed to the ideals of modern democracy – and input ideas into governance at every point, in a bid to ensure that Sunshine State does not take the back seat in the comity of states in Nigeria.
