Police arraigns suspect,Biola Odutayo over death of Bumpa co-founder

The Lagos police command says it has arraigned Biola Odutayo in connection with the death of death of 32-year-old Adetunji Opayele, co-founder of Bumpa, popularly known as Teejay.

Opayele, popularly known as Teejay, was killed in a road accident on March 4 along Ozumba Mbadiwe road, Victoria Island, Lagos. Teejay was a software engineer allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by Odutayo.

In a statement by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the PPRO Odutayo says he was arraigned on March 12, 2025, in Lagos following her discharge from the hospital.

She is facing charges of reckless and careless driving on a public highway, which resulted in the death of Opayele on March 4, 2025, has since sparked public concern.

A petition demanding justice for Teejay and urging authorities, including the inspector-general of police (IGP) and Lagos state officials, to take immediate action, had been launched on Change.org.

The statement states, “We #LagosPoliceNG acknowledge public concerns regarding the tragic accident that claimed the life of Adetunji Opayele (Teejay) on March 4, 2025. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who have been affected by this loss.

The court granted her bail and adjourned the case till April 16, 2025.
