Ondo Emerging Leaders Conference Wraps Up, Ignites Youth Inspiration
The recently concluded Ondo Emerging Leaders Conference drew over 1,000 youths from all 18 local government areas of Ondo State. Held at The Dome International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, the event was a gathering of young leaders, dignitaries, and notable stakeholders focused on youth empowerment and state development. Themed “Empowering Future Leaders Towards a Greater Ondo,” the conference featured keynote addresses, presentations, panel sessions, and a dynamic question-and-answer segment, giving attendees ample opportunity to engage with thought leaders and industry experts.
High Chief Bamidele Omosehin, Founder and President of the Bamidele Omosehin Leadership Development Initiative (BOLDI) and the Lisa of Osooro Kingdom, expressed his deep appreciation for the state’s youth, who he described as the heart of the conference. He urged the young participants to prioritize integrity and reject money politics as they approach the gubernatorial election on November 16, advising them to vote only for credible leaders: “If they offer you money, collect it, but vote only for the best candidates.”
Olufowobi Olarewaju Desmond, Executive Secretary of BOLDI, shared insights into the inspiration behind the initiative. He discussed the organization’s vision and mission, emphasizing that BOLDI’s primary purpose is to harness the state’s rich resources and empower the youth. Desmond highlighted several of the organization’s key initiatives, including its weekly lecture series, community engagement programs, youth development initiatives, and a new youth empowerment foundation that aims to support 1,000 youths across the state in fields like technology, the digital economy, arts and entertainment, and agriculture. “The responsibility of every generation is to be the bridge of hope for the coming generation,” Desmond stated, emphasizing that BOLDI is committed to building that bridge by providing mentorship and leadership opportunities for young minds in Ondo State.
Barrister Banjo Ayenakin, in his keynote address, examined the root causes of Nigeria’s and Ondo’s economic challenges, attributing them to a lack of patriotism and shared vision among those in power. He noted that, despite Ondo State’s vast natural and human resources, the state needs strong, strategic leadership to convert these resources into viable opportunities for the youth, particularly in the blue economy sector. “Leaders must be deliberate in converting resources into opportunities,” he stressed, describing Ondo’s waters as a critical asset for job creation and economic growth.
Hon. Agbi Stephen Omobamidele, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Mobilization, also delivered an inspiring speech, sharing his personal journey to success and encouraging the youth to pursue excellence. He announced his willingness to mentor as many Ondo youths as possible, underscoring the importance of hard work and determination in achieving life goals.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Pastor Segun Ayerin, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; Oba Festus Olumoyegun; and Hon. Ameachi Babatunde Kolawole. Various artists and actresses were also present, adding cultural richness to the event.
Pastor Segun Ayerin lauded BOLDI’s efforts, stating, “This conference is an essential step in preparing our youth for future leadership roles. Empowering the youth is the foundation for our state’s sustainable progress.”
With a newly established foundation aimed at empowering 1,000 young people in critical sectors and fostering entrepreneurship, the conference concluded with a call to action for young leaders to drive positive change and uphold the values of integrity and dedication. The Ondo Emerging Leaders Conference set a powerful precedent for youth engagement and leadership development in the state, promising a brighter future for Ondo’s young leaders.
