Ondo Celebrates Fallen Heroes as Widows Receive ₦50m Empowerment Boost

 

 

Ondo State Governor Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the sum of Fifty Million Naira as micro-credit, revolving interest-free loans for one hundred and twenty widows of fallen heroes in the state.

The cheques were presented to beneficiaries during the final parade, wreath-laying and empowerment programme marking the 2026 Armed Forces And Remembrance Day celebration at the Government Cenotaph, Alagbaka, Akure.

The loan package was increased from Two Hundred Thousand Naira to between Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand and Five Hundred Thousand Naira per beneficiary, in a move aimed at strengthening the economic capacity of the widows.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a solemn occasion to honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes and to reassure serving security personnel that their dedication to national service will never be forgotten.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of widows and dependants of fallen heroes, explaining that the non-collateral loans, disbursed through the Ondo State Micro-Credit Agency, are designed to empower beneficiaries economically.

In her vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa, noting that his commitment to empowering women and vulnerable groups has gone beyond mere words.

She lauded the governor for his substantial financial support to widows, observing that it would significantly improve their livelihoods.

was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, represented by his deputy, Mr Ololade Gbegudu of the State House of Assembly; and various traditional rulers.
