Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment To National Security, Enhances Media Collaboration
The Nigerian Army and the media have strengthened their ties to promote national development and security. The second edition of the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Media Chat, held in Akure, Ondo State, brought together stakeholders from the military, media, academia, and other sectors to discuss the importance of collaboration in achieving national security objectives.
Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Gold Chibuisi emphasized the media’s crucial role in shaping public perception and urged journalists to maintain ethical reporting while mitigating sensationalism, misinformation, and disinformation.
He assured the media of the Army’s commitment to providing timely and accurate information, highlighting the shared responsibility in shaping the narrative of the security landscape.
With the theme, “Military-Media Collaboration: Panacea for Enhanced National Security and Development,” underscored the importance of synergy between the Army and the media in advancing national security objectives. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, reiterated the media’s vital role in informing and educating the public on government and military activities.
He emphasized the importance of media partnerships in achieving national security goals and maintaining peace, while assuring that the Nigerian Army would continue to enhance media access to its operations.
The event featured discussions on enhancing information for national security and development, with speakers highlighting the Army’s efforts to bridge the information gap and counter fake news. Dr. Ade-Johnson, Head of Mass Communication Department, Adekunle Ajasin University, emphasized the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach in shaping public policies and national security strategies, highlighting the media’s critical role in this ecosystem.
Stakeholders called for deeper collaboration between the military and the media to strengthen national cohesion, enhance transparency, and support development.
