“I’m One of You,” Says Lebi as She Appeals for Unity Among Coaches, Athletes
The newly appointed General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Mrs Evelyn Lebi, has appealed to aggrieved coaches and athletes to embrace peace and unity for the development of sports in the state.
Mrs Lebi made the appeal following a protest by sports union leaders and stakeholders, including athletes, over her appointment, which led to the temporary closure of the main gate of the sports complex in Akure.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Mrs Lebi urged the coaches and athletes to see her as one of their own, noting that she has served meritoriously at the Sports Council for over ten years and has the best interest of the council at heart.
She said she understands the challenges facing sports development in the state and expressed readiness to improve athletes’ welfare while working closely with the dedicated coaches at the sports council to revive sporting activities.
Highlighting her experience and participation in several national and international competitions, the former national athlete assured stakeholders of her commitment to giving her best and collaborating with all parties to achieve sustainable development.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Henry Omoyofunmi, met with the management of the Ondo State Sports Council to brief them on recent developments.
He urged staff to cooperate with the new General Manager, whom he described as a qualified and seasoned sports administrator.
Mrs Evelyn Lebi succeeds Mr Sunday Fagite, who recently retired from the civil service.
