Alumni Association Awards Scholarships To Two Oduduwa University Students
As part of efforts to ease financial pressures on students and strengthen the university’s alumni network, the Oduduwa University Ipetumodu Alumni Association (OUIAA) has awarded scholarships to two undergraduates as part of its 2025 support programme.
The beneficiaries, Ogunmola Christiana Mercy, a 300-level Business Administration student and Adedeji Oluwatomisin, a 300-level Nursing Science student, were selected after a competitive evaluation process that highlighted their academic commitment and personal resilience.
OUIAA in a press statement said the stories shared by applicants revealed the quiet struggles many students endure to remain in school.
According to the association, several students combine academic work with multiple side jobs, while others shoulder family responsibilities, often at personal cost, adding that these realities underscored the need for intervention.
The association explained that the 2025 scholarships were funded by alumni donations from within Nigeria and abroad, with contributors from the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States and Canada, including additional support from the OUIAA Board of Trustees and friends of the association who backed the initiative.
Beyond the scholarships, OUIAA announced a broader expansion of its support system to include alumni-focused programmes.
The new framework covers business empowerment, mentorship, access to funding opportunities, visibility for alumni-owned enterprises, postgraduate guidance, relocation advisory services and sector-specific networking sessions.
It added that a Global Alumni Connect Initiative has also been launched to link graduates in Nigeria with counterparts in the UK, US, Europe, the UAE and Canada for collaboration, mentorship and international job referrals.
OUIAA further unveiled its 2025/2026 fundraising campaign aimed at increasing the number of scholarships, providing emergency educational support and strengthening alumni businesses. The drive, according to the association, is open to alumni, corporate organisations, parents, philanthropists and supporters of education.
The association noted that every contribution helps keep students in school, supports alumni livelihoods and expands opportunities for the Oduduwa University community.
It urged graduates around the world to participate in building a stronger foundation for students and fellow alumni, adding that this year’s scholarship recipients reflect the resilience that defines the institution and the impact that collective support can achieve.
