Since his appointment to the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye has continued to attract commendation from members of staff and residents of the commission’s mandate areas for what many describe as a new chapter of administrative transformation, improved welfare and institutional development.
For OSOPADEC staff, Poroye’s leadership has brought renewed attention to staff welfare and professional development. The timely approval of training programmes, seminars, conferences and workshops has provided members of staff with opportunities to improve their knowledge, skills and capacity to deliver effectively on their responsibilities.
One of the notable administrative changes under his watch has been the expansion of the commission’s organisational structure. Poroye reportedly met an OSOPADEC with nine (9) departments and increased the number to twenty five (25) departments. Similarly, the number of directors was increased from nine (9) to twenty five (25), alongside the creation and strengthening of positions for deputy directors and assistant directors. The expansion has given more personnel opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the commission’s operations and responsibilities.
Another landmark initiative credited to his administration is the introduction of a wardrobe allowance for staff, described by employees as the first of its kind in the history of OSOPADEC. The initiative has further reinforced the administration’s emphasis on staff welfare and recognition.
Beyond staff welfare, Poroye’s tenure has also witnessed attention to infrastructure within the commission’s mandate areas. The first concrete walkway in the mandate areas was commissioned under his watch, adding to the growing list of physical development initiatives associated with his administration.
Equally significant is the renewed emphasis on productivity across the commission. Departments and units have been activated and encouraged to take their responsibilities with greater seriousness. The emerging culture, according to staff, is one in which every department and unit is expected to remain functional, productive and responsive to the objectives of OSOPADEC.
The atmosphere within the commission has consequently become one of appreciation and goodwill. From different corners of OSOPADEC, staff have expressed gratitude for what they regard as positive changes under Poroye’s leadership. Letters, messages and words of appreciation have continued to flow, reflecting the level of goodwill generated by the administration’s initiatives.
The impact of his leadership is also being associated with programmes targeted at vulnerable groups and young people. The increase in both the amount and number of beneficiaries of students’ bursaries and scholarships, as well as support for the aged, has attracted widespread commendation from beneficiaries and stakeholders.
For many staff members, the story of Poroye’s tenure is therefore not limited to administrative restructuring. It is also about welfare, capacity building, infrastructure, inclusion and renewed institutional activity.
Against this backdrop, members of staff have continued to express appreciation to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for appointing Prince Poroye at what they consider a critical period for the commission. According to the staff, the appointment has helped address some of the concerns and anxieties that had affected both employees and people living within OSOPADEC’s mandate areas.
As the administration continues, expectations remain high that the reforms and initiatives already introduced will be sustained and expanded for the benefit of staff and communities within the commission’s areas of responsibility.
To me and to many stakeholders, Prince Biyi Poroye has become a symbol of renewed hope – hence the increasingly popular description of him as “the Messiah God sent to OSOPADEC.”
