The Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye on Tuesday received the management team of Coastal Renaissance News, led by its Publisher, Taiwo Ilesanmi Gbamila, in what was described as a renewed commitment to supporting education and human capital development in the Commission’s mandate areas.
The meeting, which brought together the media team and the leadership of OSOPADEC, also featured the presentation of 1,000 customised exercise books donated by Gbamila to support pupils and students in schools across the Commission’s mandate areas.
The gesture is aimed at complementing ongoing efforts to improve access to educational materials and create a more conducive learning environment for children in the oil-producing communities.
Speaking during the visit, Gbamila said the donation was motivated by the need to contribute meaningfully to the educational development of children in the coastal communities, stressing that access to basic learning materials remains essential to the academic growth of pupils.
He noted that education plays a critical role in preparing young people for the future, adding that individuals and organisations have a responsibility to contribute to initiatives that can improve the standard of education, particularly in underserved communities.
Gbamila commended the leadership of OSOPADEC for its interventions in the Commission’s mandate areas and expressed the readiness of Coastal Renaissance News to continue supporting initiatives that promote education, development and the wellbeing of residents.
Receiving the Coastal Renaissance News team, the OSOPADEC Chairman, Prince Biyi Poroye, appreciated Gbamila for the gesture, describing the donation as a significant contribution towards strengthening education in the mandate areas.
Poroye emphasised the importance of partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, media organisations and individuals in addressing developmental challenges confronting communities.
He noted that while government has a responsibility to provide basic infrastructure and social services, sustainable development requires the collective efforts of stakeholders who are committed to improving the lives of the people.
The OSOPADEC Chairman also reiterated the Commission’s commitment to prioritising programmes and interventions that directly impact the people, particularly in the areas of education, infrastructure, healthcare, empowerment and other sectors critical to community development.
He said educational support remains particularly important because the children in the mandate areas represent the future of the communities, stressing that providing them with the necessary learning materials could help reduce barriers to effective learning.
Poroye commended Gbamila for demonstrating concern for the educational needs of pupils in the coastal communities and encouraged other well-meaning individuals, organisations and corporate bodies to emulate the gesture.
