The political atmosphere in Ondo State has become increasingly tense following allegations against groups of political bigwings with the motives capable of influencing the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
According to reports, the alleged development has continued to generate concern among party members and stakeholders, with fears that it could negatively affect the integrity of the APC in the state.
The group, Concerned Citizens of Ondo State, noted that the APC at the national level had unequivocally adopted a mode for the conduct of its primaries nationwide.
It therefore called on the Ondo State governor Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa to ensure transparency and accountability in line with the directives of the APC National Executive Council and democratic principles.
The group described any attempt to manipulate the process as dangerous and capable of tarnishing the credibility and integrity of the APC both within and outside Ondo State by politicians.
Concerned Citizens of Ondo State also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC national leadership, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media, and other lovers of democracy across the country to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing any action capable of undermining the democratic will of APC members in the state.
The statement further declared that aspirants and their supporters were prepared to resist and expose any unlawful or manipulative acts capable of compromising the credibility of the primaries.
According to the group, comprehensive monitoring mechanisms have already been put in place across polling units in Ondo State to ensure transparency during the exercise.
It added that advanced surveillance cameras, drone monitoring services, independent situation rooms, and coordinated grassroots intelligence networks would be deployed to monitor the process and ensure accountability.
The group stressed that every vote must count and warned that any attempt to manipulate the exercise would be exposed and challenged within the ambit of the law.
It maintained that democracy must not be sacrificed for personal ambition, insisting that Ondo State belongs to the people and not to “political emperors, desperate power merchants, or enemies of democratic justice.”
“The world is watching. Nigeria is watching. History is recording,” the statement concluded.
The statement was signed by Concerned Citizens of Ondo State.
